I am back to blog after a couple of years and some hundreds facebook’s status updates ;-). A lot of things happened in the past months but the most important one is that we repurchased the REAL Server (was SQLiteServer) from REAL Software (I am no longer the REAL Server’s architect at REAL).

SQLabs as a company is now 100% involved in the development of the new version of the server because we strongly think that a sqlite based server is a winner solution. I remember when we first launched the REAL Server back in 2008, it was rock solid, incredible fast and easy to use. It was able to serve more than than 16 million requests per month without a single restart for more than a year (using our custom php extension).

We are here today to announce that we are actively developing the new version of the server (SQLabsServer is a temporary name) and our first five priorities are:

  1. Stability
  2. Stability
  3. Stability
  4. Connectivity
  5. Expandability

As you can see we absolutely want a ROCK SOLID server for all the platforms we support. We cannot accept compromises, it’s a server and it cannot crash. Connectivity is number one request from our users, we need to provide a C SDK, a PHP extension, an ODBC driver and much more. I can tell you that we are working on something more and I am sure you’ll be very satisfy once you’ll see it. Expandability is because we cannot know in advance all your needs so we are developing the new version is a way that will let you write your own sql functions, your own plugins and much more.

There are a lot of existing REAL Server customers not too happy by how things went in the last year, we are here to try to change their opinion by facts, I am sure that when you’ll see the new version running you’ll be extremely satisfied.

There are really a lot of exciting news about the server but I don’t want to post all of them right now. In the upcoming days I’ll blog about new features, about the status of the server and about some new products.

Since the beginning we was “sqlite” guys and this is the born of a new company… entirely devoted to bring sqlite to the next level.

Stay tuned for future news.
